Originally built to resemble a riverboat -- minus the river! -- Harrah's Las Vegas is anchored in the heart of the Las Vegas Strip. This lively resort opened as the Holiday Inn Casino in 1973. Having nurtured that fun-lovin' spirit over the years, Harrah's boasts a rambunctious, reckless energy that is sure to win over the young and young-at-heart.The resort is known as the home of Toby Keith's I Love This Bar and Grill. Named for one of the country superstar's hit singles, this place is full of rollicking good times with lots to drink, live music, dancing and big portions of home-style food – like the fried bologna sandwich.Speaking of food, you'll find fresh seafood at the Oyster Bar at Harrah's. It specializes in a variety of appetizers, oysters, fish tacos and grilled lobster tail. And KGB: Kerry's Gourmet Burgers features the culinary genius of Kerry Simon in a funky atmosphere suggestive of Russia. Plus, Ruth's Chris Steak House has unparalleled views of the Strip and signature cuts of USDA Prime steak, broiled in an 1,800-degree oven.Want a quick bite? Flavors, The Buffet serves breakfast, lunch and dinner via a scrumptious array of cooking stations -- and it has a never-ending supply of crab legs! And you can always grab a cool and delicious ice cream concoction at Icepan.Entertainment is always on the menu at Harrah's as well. Since 2000, magician Mac King has been mystifying and cracking up audiences of all ages in the afternoons. If you'd prefer to be keeled over in laughter in the evenings, get tickets to the Improv Comedy Club or "Defending the Caveman," a hilarious one-man play that originated on Broadway. And "Million Dollar Quartet," the hit Broadway musical, tells about how four rock 'n' roll pioneers (Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley) came together one magical night. In addition, music and drinks can be found at several of the resort's bars. Creative cocktails are poured by the world's top flair bartenders at the outdoor Carnaval Court. Indoors you'll discover the Piano Bar, which showcases TJ's Karaoke Party and the Twins Dueling Pianos.Gaming seems to stretch into every nook and cranny of the property. As part of its nearly 87,000-square-foot casino, you'll come across such spots as the "Poker Place," where every type of video poker machine imaginable is housed, and Toby Keith's I Love This Party Pit, which brings the whiskey-themed debauchery of his bar and grill downstairs.Harrah's has a lovely Olympic-sized outdoor swimming pool, replete with cabanas and comfortable lounge chairs. Other amenities include a fitness center, The Spa at Harrah's (known for its aromatherapy treatments and Swedish massages), a beauty salon and plenty of shopping -- ranging from logo merchandise to jewelry, purses and leisure apparel. Plus, the resort is home to a Las Vegas Monorail station and provides free shuttles to the Rio.Harrah's 2,526 rooms and suites are located in two adjacent 22- and 35-story towers. They feature views of the Strip, mountains, pool or city. Rooms include blackout drapes, pay-per-view movies, an iron and ironing board, a minibar and a hair dryer. There are special floors for non-smoking guests.Offering exciting gaming, exceptional dining, and a party-like atmosphere -- as well as easy access to the action-packed Strip -- Harrah's is the perfect place to get away from everyday life.

Not impressed
PostedAugust 12, 2012
Not very impressed at all. The air conditioner in the room did not work. We were hot when we went to bed and when we woke up. The check in took FOREVER. The check in time was at 4 and by the time we finally got to the room it was after 6. The lady told us at the front desk that the pool was to open at 8 the next day and we went at around 8:30 and it didn't open until 9. About 75% of the seats by the pool you have to pay to lay on. It is also a small pool and way too cramped. The only positive thing about this hotel is the location. You cant beat it. But I think we would have rather had a room that was cooler than the outside, especially in the summer.

There's always something going on at the Stratosphere, which is conveniently situated between downtown Las Vegas and the Strip. The resort, which boasts the tallest freestanding tower in the United States, is also home to several great restaurants, two enjoyable shows, plenty of shops and four heart-stopping thrill rides. At 1,149 feet, the Stratosphere Tower dwarfs everything else in the city. Since it extends to such a great height, it's visible from nearly every vantage point in Las Vegas. So you can just imagine the extraordinary perspective you'll have when looking down upon the entire valley from the top. In less than 40 seconds, high-speed elevators will take you to the 109th floor, where there's an indoor and outdoor observation deck. It's hard to believe four thrill rides and the Air Bar -- as you may find you need a drink! -- are also located here. Screams of terror as well as delight can be heard coming from X-Scream (something of a giant teeter totter), Insanity (a chaotic spinning ride) and SkyJump (a cable-controlled freefall). The Big Shot, a fearsome ride that shoots straight up into the air and then drops back down to the launch pad, somehow temporarily eliminates the feeling of gravity.A safer and saner way to enjoy the tower is with a fine meal in the Top of the World restaurant. One of Las Vegas' premier gourmet rooms, it serves sophisticated cuisine impeccably paired with wine and complemented by a 360-degree view of the city -- because the floor makes a complete rotation every 80 minutes. If you just want to sip on a cocktail while taking in the extraordinary views, head up a floor to the Level 107 Lounge.Preparing eccellènte pasta and other Italian delights is the pride and joy of Fellini's Ristorante Italiano. Singing for your supper is all the rage at Roxy's Diner. The cool waitstaff in this nostalgic restaurant, known for its old-fashioned home cooking, often put on a show. Stop by McCall's Heartland Grill for a hearty mix of steak and seafood in a Midwestern-style restaurant. The Buffet -- with its array of cuisines, carving stations, a deli area and fresh-baked pastries -- is simply delicious at any time of the day. Or the Tower Pizzeria & Creamery is a great place to grab a quick slice and a scoop of ice cream.Frankie Moreno and his 10-piece band create a party atmosphere each evening in the resort's main showroom with their undeniable musical talent, swagger and shots of Crown Royal whiskey. They play a captivating collection of classic covers and original hits. Moreno has also produced a show called "Pin Up." The swingin' production stars Claire Sinclair, a Playboy Playmate, and was choreographed by Lacey Schwimmer of "Dancing with the Stars."Open seasonally, summers at the Stratosphere are best spent at the Level 8 Pool, located on the eighth floor. In addition to a hot tub, poolside café and bar, you'll always find a game of water volleyball in session. For a more serious workout, check out the resort's 24-hour fitness center. Or do something wonderful for both your body and spirit by getting treatment, massage or facial at the Roni Josef International Salon & Spa. It's guaranteed to melt all your stresses away! For those who dream of shopping around the world, there's the Tower Shops with 32 stores and an eclectic mix of retail carts. Explore the avenues of Paris, the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong and the ritzy neighborhoods of New York City at this unique retail complex that features replicated street scenes from those iconic shopping cities.About a mile from both the heart of the Strip and downtown, the Stratosphere offers visitors a convenient connection to all the action via The Deuce and the Strip and Downtown Express bus systems. No visit to Las Vegas would be complete without exploring the Stratosphere and its famous tower -- and staying here is even better. The resort is affordably priced and perfectly placed for a fantastic vacation!-- By Renée LiButti

Much better than expected!

We were a little skeptical at staying at a hotel that was so cheap, but we were very impressed! We were highly satisfied. The check in was extremely fast and our room was cool when we entered. It was very clean and the bed was super comfortable. It was wonderful to have unlimited access to the tower! Highly Recommend!!!!

No. There is no charge. You may have to show proof of your itinerary but that's it.
