If you're looking for a Las Vegas resort with a prime location at the center of the Strip and very affordable prices, there's one place to keep at the top of your mind: The Quad Resort & Casino. Right now, it is undergoing exterior and interior refurbishment to modernize property. Some recently unveiled elements have included the new porte cochere, front desk, bell desk, lobby, front section of the casino and Catalyst Bar. Renovation of The Quad is currently under way in the middle section of the casino floor as well as in some of the retail and dining areas. Drivers will find the resort's main entrance has moved from the Las Vegas Strip to the north side of the building with access via Koval Road or Harrah's off Las Vegas Boulevard. A pedestrian walkway connects The Quad with adjacent properties, including Harrah's Carnaval Court. The next phase of The Quad's renovations will be complete in September 2013. The final exterior work will be finished in late 2013, in conjunction with the opening of The Linq, Caesars Entertainment's $550 million retail, dining and entertainment district. The Quad is an always-bustling, mid-sized property situated in the heart of the Strip. It is walking distance from several of the city's most famous resorts -- including Caesars Palace, The Mirage, Bellagio, The Venetian and The Palazzo. The Quad also boasts a Las Vegas Monorail stop, which means you'll have easy access to most of the hotels up and down South Las Vegas Boulevard.Catering to visitors of all ages and from all walks of life, The Quad is not a stuffy, elite-style resort. The amenities are spread throughout the first five floors. The ground floor houses the action-packed casino. It tends to be crowded around the clock. One of focal points in the casino is the Dealertainers pit. You can sit down at blackjack tables where celebrity impersonators dressed as Beyoncé, Elvis, Pink and many more deal the cards. Often, they have to excuse themselves to belt out one of their character's hits from the elevated stage.Take the escalator to the second floor and you'll discover additional entertainment options. Jeff Civillico does comedy juggling and other stunts in the afternoon. You can also see the drag extravaganza "Divas Las Vegas" starring Frank Marino in the evening. Or delight in the drumming mayhem of Recycled Percussion, a group that pounds away on everything from buckets and trash cans to car parts and even their bodies. The place to drink at the resort is Fat Tuesdays, where you can order a variety of frozen daiquiris, perfect to cool you down during the hot summer months. Beers and cocktails of all kinds are available in the casino at the Ginza and Sake bars. Or for a sophisticated aperitif head to the fifth floor's Nomiya Lounge. If history is more your thing, check out The Auto Collections. More than 250 classic or historically significant vehicles are being displayed on the fifth floor of the hotel's self-parking garage -- some of which are for sale.?The Quad is home to several moderately priced dining options and one gourmet restaurant -- Embers, a fine steakhouse serving succulent cuts of meat. South-of-the-border cuisine is offered in the shack-style Quesadilla. The resort has a Hash House A Go Go. The chain restaurant is known for its delicious breakfast, lunch and dinner comfort foods -- which come in oversized portions. For breakfast, lunch and weekend brunch, the Emperor's Buffet has something to satisfy every craving. Or enjoy a quick bite at Burger Palace and in the 24-hour Ginseng 3, which features Japanese, Chinese and Korean items.Watch the big games on one of the 12 large screens in the spacious sports book on the third floor. Horse racing fans will be impressed by the stadium-style seating, complete with 230 individual monitors.Splash into the pool (and Jacuzzi) or work up a sweat in the fitness center. You can get a manicure in The Salon at The Quad (the spa is currently closed for renovation).Clean and comfortable, The Quad's towers feature a variety of accommodations ranging from classic rooms with all the basics to deluxe "luv tub" rooms that have spa tubs thrown into the mix. Plus, pet-loving guests are welcome to bring their four-legged friends (weighing less than 50 pounds) to lodge in the special PetStay rooms. For those wanting to tie the knot, the Silver Sky Chapel features two fine venues: the signature Skyline Chapel and the Southwestern Chapel with a desert motif. The resort has a stretch of souvenir stores located near the room elevators as well. Shops include Bijoux Terner, Higuchi, Fun Gifts, Emporium, Signature Shop, Whiskey Run and Gifts Plus. The Quad is a full-service resort offering value-oriented accommodations. Whether you are coming to party with a group of friends, bringing your family for a vacation or attending a conference, the hotel is sure to suit you.-- Staff ReportNOTE: Due to construction of The Linq, a $550 milllion urban retail and entertainment corridor scheduled to open in late 2013, The Quad is undergoing a noticeable transformation, bringing several improvements to the property including new interior and exterior refurbishments that will result in a new relaxed and contemporary atmosphere. During the renovation period, which is already underway, The Quad guests may experience construction noise, dusty surfaces and intermittent utility disruptions around the property. Every attempt will be made to alert guests upon arrival of any activities that may impact their stay. In addition, vehicle traffic is no longer be able to access The Quad from the Las Vegas Boulevard entrances. A detour route brings all consumer vehicle traffic through the east end of the property closer to self parking as well as valet parking at the new porte cochere, and consumer vehicle traffic may also use the Harrah's entrance from Las Vegas Boulevard. Two new entrances are available for getting into The Quad -- one is adjacent to the hotel's porte cochere on the north side and the other is on the south side across from Margaritaville at the Flamingo. Pedestrians may also use the bridge between Harrah's and The Quad located at the rear of the properties.

Although it may seem preposterous, some hotels in Las Vegas are geared to kids -- like Circus Circus, which is located at the northern end of the Strip. Book a room here and the whole family will be able to embark on a flight of fancy.Start your adventure at The Adventuredome, a five-acre theme park situated beneath a climate-controlled dome covered with pink glass. It contains at least 25 unique rides. The brave at heart can hop on the Canyon Blaster, a double-loop, double-corkscrew roller coaster. The younger set is sure to enjoy Miner Mike, a runaway coal train, or the Thunderbirds, a squadron of not-so-high-flying 1920s-style airplanes. Plus, several virtual reality film rides are broadcast in the FX Theatre, including "SpongeBob SquarePants 4-D" and "Happy Feet: Mumble's Wild Ride 4-D," for all ages. And the family fun doesn't end in the amusement park. Aspiring artists and cartoon movie fans can immerse themselves in an animated world at the Chuck Jones Experience. You'll discover interactive exhibits along with a display of more than 250 drawings, doodles and paintings by the legendary "Looney Tunes" animator here. There is also a gift shop and classroom where special workshops and lectures are held.Parents looking for more adult-oriented pastimes can play slots in the nearby Skyrise Casino or head downstairs to the main casino floor, where there is a poker room, a race and sports book, more than 40 table games (note: free lessons in poker, blackjack, roulette and craps are offered daily) and more than 1,500 of the latest slot and video poker machines.Ironically, situated above is the famed Circus Circus Midway, where you can win stuffed animals and other toys by trying your luck at one of more than 200 popular carnival games. In the center of all the action is the Midway Stage, home to free live circus acts featuring performers from around the world. Shows run every half hour from early afternoon until late at night. You'll actually encounter clownin' around everywhere on the property. Since opening in 1968, Circus Circus has presented roving clowns and other beloved circus acts not only on stages in the Midway and The Adventuredome, but also wandering the floor space throughout both facilities -- this includes the lobby, the shopping promenade and other gathering spots. Clowns are like ambassadors at Circus Circus. In addition to their merrymaking, they answer questions, give directions and make any waits in line pass by enjoyably. When it's time to eat, you'll find something for everyone at this resort -- from quick snacks to full-service restaurants and the massive Circus Buffet. The gourmet dining room, THE Steak House, has long been acclaimed for its perfectly prepared prime cuts of meat cooked on a mesquite charcoal broiler. The Garden Grill serves a menu of American favorites, and the Pizzeria is a whimsical spot for freshly baked pizza with an array of tempting toppings. If you want to knock back a few drinks accompanied by a gigantic burger or hot dog, stop by Rock & Rita's, where you'll also be entertained by flair bartenders and can order libations in a 44-ounce ceramic toilet container. Pick up a sweet treat at Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, an overstuffed sandwich at the Westside Deli or a bagel and a cup of joe at Barista. And don't miss the most enchanting eatery on the premises -- a snack bar in the Midway designed to resemble a carousel. It rotates high above the casino floor -- and the gelato is simply divine!Rounding out the amenities at Circus Circus are pools, the Alexandra Noel Beauty Salon and shops that sell everything from designer fragrances to taffy and old-time photos. Want to tie the knot? Weddings are conducted in the Chapel of the Fountain, which has a romantic English garden setting.Circus Circus boasts several different kinds of accommodations. There are comfortable, traditional rooms along with 135 spacious suites in the West, Casino and Skyrise towers. Circus Circus Manor is a series of five three-story buildings that offer motor lodge-style rooms and parking. Plus, the KOA Circusland RV Park is spread out on 23 acres and encompasses a convenience store, an arcade, a laundry facility, a playground, pet runs and a large entertainment-oriented room.Clearly, the ultimate, affordable, family-style resort in Las Vegas is Circus Circus. Where else would you have easy access to a midway under a pink-and-white big top as well as a giant indoor theme park?-- By Renée LiButti
