TerryL's Reviews

If you're looking for a show that's a fusion of acrobatics, dance and visual effects, accompanied by a classic rock 'n' roll soundtrack, then all you need is LOVE.Show Director Dominic Champagne calls The Beatles LOVE by Cirque du Soleil a "rock 'n' roll poem." The show is a slightly psychedelic journey through the trends and politics of the '60s and most importantly, The Beatles' history, told through nearly 30 of the group's songs.LOVE started out as a collaboration between George Harrison and Cirque du Soleil's Guy LaLiberté. After Harrison's death, the remaining Beatles and the families of the late group members helped bring Harrison's vision to life, sharing their ideas about song selection and song order for the show. The music director for LOVE is none other than Sir George Martin, who is best known for his work producing The Beatles' music. Martin's son, Giles, is also a music director for the show.Although LOVE features some well-known Beatles songs, it is not meant to be a greatest hits show. The journey starts with the energetic "Get Back" at the scene of The Beatles' farewell concert and then flashes back to Liverpool during World War II when the band members were young children. No journey through the '60s would be complete without a trip through the era of Beatlemania. Acrobats and tumblers on trampolines perform, accompanied by "I Want to Hold Your Hand" and "Drive My Car.""Help" serves as the soundtrack for four extreme sports athletes who take the stage leaping 11 foot ramps on inline skates."Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" and "Octopus's Garden" are the perfect backdrops for Cirque's famous aerial ballet moves. The show even features a "jam session" created from authentic recordings of the four band members. All of the audio clips and music in the show are from actual recordings from The Beatles' Abbey Road studio. The show concludes with its namesake "All You Need is Love," as a montage of photos of The Beatles plays on huge screens, leaving the audience with a feeling of nostalgia for a bygone era.Besides The Beatles, the other star of the show is the 2,000-plus seat theater itself, which features 360-degree seating. There is not a bad seat in the house and the farthest is only 98 feet from the stage. The sound system is unlike any other - there are 6,341 speakers in the theater and patrons feel as though they are completely enveloped in sound. There are three speakers per seat -- two in each headrest and one in the seat in front of you.The theater also features a complex video system with 28 projectors and two 20-foot-high by 100-foot-wide screens, which contribute to the visual experience.LOVE is not a typical Cirque du Soleil show with high-flying trapeze artists, gymnasts and acrobats. Although there is some of that in the show, it is mainly a theatrical and dance-oriented show. The creators also wanted to bring a bit of the youth of today into the show, showcasing extreme sports, break dancing and street dancing. In the end, it's all about the music and if you're a fan of The Beatles, you'll have nothing but love for this show.-- By Kristine McKenzie

What would a magician do when his act gets mixed reviews for having too much going on and too much filler? He'd make those parts disappear, of course. And in true magical fashion, he makes them re-appear as something much better. The recently revamped Criss Angel Believe from Cirque du Soleil brings out more of what Angel's fans have been clamoring for in the first place: magic. This production has seen some significant changes in response to feedback from guests and critics alike, and the end result is a highly focused and entertaining show.Criss Angel Believe takes his illusions and stage presence, combined with the flair and artistry Cirque is best known for -- with just enough of each to make fans of both happy.Although the magic acts in Criss Angel Believe form a loosely-connected narrative, this story is secondary to wowing the audience with illusions. From levitation to "how'd-he-do-it?" disappearances, Angel brings out all the acts he has made famous on "Mindfreak" and then some, along with some more traditional illusions with an added "Mindfreak" twist to them. From the theater itself to the set pieces used during Angel's performance, the whole atmosphere is dark with gothic accents, reminiscent of old-fashioned circuses and carnivals with a morbid twist.Angel's back-and-forth interaction with the audience throughout the show keeps things interesting, but his bumbling assistants -- four "ushers" named Maestro, Luigi, Slim and Lars --  ensure that the whole experience, from start to finish, inspires both awe and laughter. Expect lots of dark humor, as Angel has snappy commentary to accompany many of his illusions."You're applauding this woman being cut in half. Really, that's horrible. Just horrible," he says with a sarcastic grin, after a scaled-up take on the classic "saw a woman in half" trick. We've never thought about it like that, but Angel generally has an entirely different way of thinking about these illusions than your average magician does.If you've ever wanted to be a part of a larger-than-life, stage version of Angel's "Mindfreak" program -- this is the show to see.-- Staff report

Entertaining but not excellent. Over priced. Too many things to pay attention to all. I'd call this a moderately entertaining show and would only recommend this show to a magic buff.

The music of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons is ubiquitous. Whether or not you realize it, you've heard their songs on the radio, in TV commercials, movies or covered by a contemporary artist. Their repertoire of hits like, "Sherry," "Walk Like a Man" and "Big Girls Don't Cry" is ingrained in American pop culture. The story behind those songs and the group is just as endearing.Jersey Boys at Paris Las Vegas takes audiences into the lives of Frankie Valli, Tommy DeVito, Nick Massi and Bob Gaudio and their rise to stardom as The Four Seasons. The show, written by Marshal Brickman and Rick Elice, begins with four blue-collar kids working their way from the streets of Newark, N.J., to achieving their dreams of being in a famous music group. Their captivating journey to stardom is told through the sensational cast and the band's hit songs like "Big Girls Don't Cry," "Rag Doll," "Oh, What a Night" and "Can't Take My Eyes Off You."Each of the Four Seasons takes a turn telling their side of the story. It becomes clear that while their voices fit together in perfect harmony, their distinct personalities and lives were a sharp contrast to their symphonic sound."We put Jersey on the map," says DeVito,  who is the first storyteller for the evening. "Ask four guys how it happened and you get four different versions but they all start here."As he narrates, the other characters play out the live version of his recollection of how the band came together. He floats in and out of his role as both a narrator and an active part of the scenes. After DeVito introduces the audience to his band and his life in Jersey he describes hearing Valli's stunning falsetto and taking him under his wing as the new singer for his band. DeVito is the guiding force for the band and recommends that they need one more guy to complete their sound.  His friend, Joe Pesci, initiates a meeting between Bob Gaudio and the rest of the band.Already a one-hit wonder at the age of 17 with his song, "(Who Wears) Short Shorts," Gaudio becomes the final piece of the puzzle. Next they meet up with Bob Crewe, a producer who helps set the boys up with a gig singing back-up for various artists.Gaudio takes over as the storyteller and explains how he contrived the band's first No. 1 song, "Sherry." This is also the first Four Seasons' song in the show, and the anxious audience explodes with applause at their electrifying performance. The classic songs and impassioned actors transport the audience back to a time when they first fell in love with the Four Seasons. The show progresses with seamless transitions between acts that flow together more like a movie than a theatrical production. Props and set pieces move on and off the stage in seconds without interrupting the developing story line. Despite what happened behind the scenes, Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons produced more than 70 chart-topping hits including eight No. 1 songs. They have sold more than 175 million records worldwide making them one of the best-selling musci groups of all time. Watching their story unfold in a live production show is a captivating experience for anyone in the audience. This compelling story, combined with riveting performances and endearing music, reiterates why The Four Seasons are a truly timeless act.-- By Caroline Fontein

Very disappointed in this show. We expected Whoopi to portray her different characters however all she did was tell a long ranting tale. There seemed to be very little laughter.

Our room was clean. The beds were very comfortable. The valet service was excellent. My only complaint would be the satellite service was sketchy and cut out often and the TV in the bathroom didn't work properly. I loved the location at the end of the strip. It was quiet but very easy to get around by car. I do wish that the shopping spree credit of $75.00 had been a resort credit instead of a crystals shop credit because I walked through all of the crystal shops and there was nothing in all of the shops even close to that amount. I ended up giving my credit to aomeone checking out because even a tie or a clutch change purse was upward of $300.00. Very disappointed in that. I don't think many average travelers could afford anything at those shops. And the sales people were very snobby if you asked th what the cheapest things in their store was.
