DearDonnaVT's Reviews

International songstress Celine Dion is back in Vegas and better than ever in her revamped residency at Caesars Palace. The five-time Grammy Award-winning artist is performing an upbeat and inspiring collection of her renowned hits as well as covers of other artist’s hits including Prince and Queen. With a five-piece horn section and a 16-piece string orchestra included among the 31 onstage, the singer nails every song in her reworked set list. With her new song selection and order, Celine achieves an overall upbeat and we-will-all-be-OK message throughout the show. Adding to her songs are special elements such as video montages of her children, magical lighting effects as well as an awe-striking water element that takes place during the ever-enchanting "My Heart Will Go On."A stunning light and video display acts as a backdrop for Dion. Ken Ehrlich, who also directs the Grammy Awards shows, designed the visual presentation exclusively for the 4,300-seat Colosseum. As Dion performs, moving stage pieces and a video and light display themed to each song create an amazing audio and visual experience. Similarly, expect to see dazzling set pieces like chandeliers, star-like lighting props and a grandiose stage filled with surprises.Serenading the audience with more than 20 songs, fans get to sing along to, become mesmerized by and even get a bit misty-eyed to Celine classics including "Because You Loved Me," "Beauty and the Beast" and "Incredible." Oh, she also sings some duets with Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley… and herself. Yep. You read that correctly. Watch out David Copperfield, Celine pulls off a seriously awesome magic trick by fooling the audience with some unexpected holographic action. And just as striking as her perfectly-tuned vocals is Celine’s enviable wardrobe. With several quick dress changes throughout the performance, Celine wows the audience in flowing ball gowns and sassy fringed numbers, strutting some never-before-seen looks in the most glamorous way possible. Her dresses and the way she rocks them are stunning times 10.Having changed her show just enough to be fresh and revamped since her year-long break, Celine offers attendees an evening filled with talent and passion for an entertainment spectacle you do not want to miss.

There is no way to select your seet till you pick up your ticket. My seat was terrible. I don't like paying upfront without a seat number.

Whether you’re a little bit country or a little bit rock and roll, Donny and Marie Osmond will have you dancing in your seats (or maybe the aisles depending on whatever you’re sippin’ on) with their 90-minute, feel-good Vegas concert.Singing together on stage for the first time in 1973 during a Las Vegas Osmond show, the brother and sister duo discovered their niche and hit the ground running. And while Donny got his start singing with his six brothers in the family music group, The Osmonds, and while Marie originally achieved solo success when her version of “Paper Roses” hit No. 1 on the Billboard Country Music charts, the two left their roots and joined forces in 1976 to host the ABC variety show, “Donny & Marie.”Still performing together today with every bit of gusto and showmanship that previously sky-rocketed the two into teen stardom, Donnie and Marie’s headlining Las Vegas show takes audiences back to yesteryear while simultaneously indulging onlookers with today’s popular hits.Since opening their show in 2008 at the Flamingo, their family-friendly concert entertains with high-energy numbers such as "Get the Party Started," "Dancing in the Streets" and "Knock on Wood” in addition to a new song, "Vegas Love,” which is off of their latest and first album they have recorded together in 30 years.Following the winning formula of their 1970s TV program by incorporating dancing and humor and performing most of their hit songs as a duo in addition to highlighting some of their career achievements individually, there is not a dull moment in this production. For Marie's turn in the spotlight, she sings her most well-known song, "Paper Roses," along with some of her other country favorites, accompanied by two guitar players. She then takes it a bit slower for a moment when she belts out a flawless rendition of the operatic “Pie Jesu” but then heats things up with a mash up of "Walk this Way" and "These Boots Were Made for Walking," accompanied by male dancers and, of course, elaborate and dazzling costumes. But when it’s Donny’s turn to woo the audience, the set transforms for the performer who was always a little bit rock 'n' roll, and he appears out of the on-stage fog to rock his 1989 comeback hit "Soldier of Love."Donny, a "Dancing with the Stars" winner, shows off some of his moves and some funky choreography in "Yo Yo" while footage of him and his brothers dancing during the '70s plays on a screen behind the stage.Even though Donny likes to rock, it was his love ballads that made him an official heartthrob and he doesn't disappoint the longtime fans, singing well-known hits like "Puppy Love," accompanied by footage of him during his teenage years."This is the part where all of the women would scream," says Donny in the middle of "Puppy Love," which of course, elicits screams from the female members of the audience. "I've still got it!" he proclaims and the audience agrees.Donny and Marie reunite on stage toward the end of the show, singing some of their classic hits like "Make the World Go Away," "Morning Side of the Mountain" and "Deep Purple."The intimate 750-seat showroom at the Flamingo is a perfect fit for Donny and Marie, offering a good view from just about any seat and allowing the performers to walk out into the audience and get close to their fans. The classic Vegas-style room features booths and tables and contributes to the feeling of nostalgia the duo evokes with their show. The Osmonds have both starred on Broadway and they close the show with songs from "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat," "Wicked," "The Sound of Music" and more.Donny and Marie have been crowd pleasers in Vegas since childhood and judging by the fact that they're still consistently selling out shows, they'll continue to be welcome for many years to come.

Donny and Marie at the Flamingo in Las Vegas

Amazing show that should be on everyone's "too see" list. They have come back to the stage with power and purpose to prove that they are indeed a talent that isn't found just anywhere and any age. They commaded the stage..used their dancing and singing interwoven into a extremely entertaining musical experience. I don't know how it's possible to do that at any age. My recommendation is that this show should be on HBO to all enjoy.
