Prominently positioned just west of Las Vegas Boulevard, this multi-colored beacon of a hotel is a close neighbor to all of the action on the Strip making it easy for guests to venture around Sin City, but from the wide variety of shows, bars and restaurants located within the hotel, you could easily find yourself staying on the property.Seamlessly integrating its Brazilian inspiration into every element of the hotel, the lively aesthetic of the brightly colored carpeting, signage and décor of the Rio will make it seem as if you've arrived in the middle Carnival season. And adding to the energetic environment is when the crowds amass for the prestigious World Series of Poker held every summer. If you're not here during poker's premiere event you can still enjoy gambling as the Rio has a sprawling casino floor with 1,200 slot machines and 80 different table games.Drawing in crowds year-round are the hotel's buffets -- The Carnival World Buffet and the Village Seafood Buffet. Off the two, the Village Seafood Buffet earns the greatest amount of praise. Just imagine loading your plate with unlimited lobster, crab legs, shrimp, sushi and other swimming selections, eating it all… and then doing it again. Drooling? That can become a reality. Both of these buffets are usually packed with patrons, so be prepared to wait, especially during any holiday weekend. If you are not hungry enough to attempt fitting the contents of the ocean into your belly but hungry enough to think about it, then we are sure that you will find a non-buffet restaurant to suit your needs with the selection that the Rio has to offer. Among the restaurants are Martorano's by the tough, tattooed Philadelphia chef Steve Martorano is a sure bet where rich, Italian-American favorites are served in excess; the All-American Bar & Grille where they are known for their dry-aged Angus beef; Pho Da Nang with exceptionally authentic Vietnamese cuisine; Buzio's Seafood Restaurant known for their fresh oysters; and there is the one-of-a-kind dim sum menu at KJ Dim Sum & Seafood Chinese Restaurant. For quicker bites, Hash House A Go Go has creatively prepared, oversized portions -- which include everything from breakfast and brunch to dinner items or you can grab a meal at the BK Whopper Bar or the Sports Deli, which situated near the six giant screens in the busy race and sports book.If you are looking to transform your dining experience into your nightlife experience, we know you'll love the succulent steak and one of the most striking views of Las Vegas at VooDoo Steak and Rooftop Nightclub, situated on the 50th and 51st floors of the resort's Masquerade Tower. And while you're up there, go ahead and check out the thrilling VooDoo Zip Line – a zip line ride, where guests soar more than 800 feet from the VooDoo Rooftop Nightclub in the hotel's Masquerade Tower to the Ipanema Tower. The 70-second journey boasts stunning 360-degree views of the Las Vegas Strip and adds an element of daring excitement to any occasion.Whether or not you opt for a ride between the towers, you can either stay and party at the rooftop club until the Strip's neon tubes flicker off with the rise of the morning sun, or you could slip off and catch one of the hotel's in house shows. Penn & Teller, the quirky magic duo, have their own theater at the Rio, as do the hunky and ever-famed Chippendales dancers. The Crown Theater hosts an array of acts including comedian Eddie Griffin and there is the seductive topless revue "X Rocks," which showcases sexy dancers and steamy choreography to the soundtrack of heart-pounding rock songs. And when you get thirsty from all that you've done or from thinking about all that you're about to do, swing by the sexy Flirt Lounge in the lobby of the Chippendales Theatre or the high-tech I-Bar, where you can order drinks from a touch-screen computer built into your tabletop.Since this is Vegas, we know that there is a good chance that you will not be bright-eyed and bushy-tailed the morning (or afternoon) after a night out on the town. The best detox is to re-tox (well at least we think so). So grab a cold one and soak up the sun with an afternoon at the hotel's indulgent pool complex. With golden sand and cascading waterfalls, this complex inspired by the Brazilian paradise is a necessity. If sun and fun is not how you like to recover, opt instead for a day of pampering at the Rio Spa & Salon. Shops are found throughout the property including The Wine Cellar & Tasting Room, Fashion 101 and the Harley-Davidson store, shoppers can get their fix of retail therapy on the property, however, the resort provides shuttle service to and from Harrah's for those who want to venture out onto the Strip as well.

Rio is Dated, No Show in the sky...Save your money
PostedMay 12, 2013
We chose this location because of the price. Also we saw tons of awesome videos and pictures of the show in the sky. When we arrived we saw a sign saying that the show wasn't going on. I was at the blackjack tables the following morning and asked about it. The dealer said that it hadn't gone on since she started working there. THAT WAS OVER 2 1/2 YEARS AGO. Why is this not on the website? You pick a hotel in vegas expecting to get the "theme" or at least the only attraction it has to offer and you get there and its shut down. Service wasn't that great. I called and complained and got $40 in room service. I will say that is you like single deck face down BJ games, this is the place to play.

If you're looking for a place to stay as well as party head to the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino where the music never stops (and we aren't talking about boring elevator music) and a good time is practically unavoidable.Located a few blocks east of the Strip, which isn't a far walk but we think cabs are fun too (especially if you've had a few too many drinks), this iconic hotel oozes good times -- from its unparalleled concert venue that has hosted some pretty impressive musical greats and its paradise-esque pool complex to its sleek nightclub, swanky restaurants and super sexy retail offerings it's obvious that this hotel was only partially built for sleeping.Built in 1995, the "old" (we much prefer the term original) Hard Rock Hotel & Casino is as happening as ever and, as a result of an expansion project that concluded in 2010, the property has added a couple of new room towers -- the luxurious Paradise Tower and the all-suite HRH Tower -- as well as several pools and leisure amenities… so it's basically new!Of course, live music reigns supreme at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, and The Joint has an incomparable reputation. As far as we know, not many other stages have been graced by KISS, Bon Jovi, Paul McCartney, Incubus, Linkin Park and The Killers, among many others. Following the redesign, this state-of-the-art 4,000-seat facility boasts pristine sound, projection and lighting systems that are so advanced they defy easy description. Simply put, there's no better place in town to see and hear your favorite performers…. unless you get privately serenaded…. And if you do, we want to talk to you.In addition to The Joint, the resort is also home to the smaller and more intimate entertainment venue, Vinyl, which features a variety of entertainment genres including local bands, comedy acts and late-night burlesque. The main nightclub at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino is Body English. Decorated with lush leather furnishings and giant chandeliers this sensual nightclub is much more than a place for simply dancing – it's a place for dancing, drinking, dancing, and perhaps drinking some more all while you enjoy a brilliant showcase of indie, electronic, rock and pop music. But if clubbing among strangers is not quite what you had in mind, the resort's private venue, Vanity offers yet another unique nightlife experience that can be privately rented for special events and parties. Opulently adorned with a decadent interior of hand-cut crystals, antique mirrors, chrome accents and rich tapestries, this is space is the club equivalent for a one-size-fits-all clothing item… there is a little something for everyone. Those who want to forego the nightclub scene will still be successful in finding that party vibe considering that the entire property is designed with a rockin' time in mind. And if your good time is the same as our good time, which typically includes some cold beverages (or hot, if that's what you're into) then you will probably find yourself among the hotel's two circular bars -- Center Bar in the original Casino Tower and the Luxe Bar in the HRH Tower. And for the sports fanatics out there, you're in luck because those of the rock 'n' roll variety also love a good ball game. If this is you, you can enjoy watching the day's action on countless big-screen TVs spread throughout The Ainsworth -- an elegant nightlife-oriented venue from New York City that serves stellar cocktails and a small menu of upscale American bar foods.During the summer months, you can bring the party outside and soak up the sun and dance without your pants… in your swimsuit obviously... at Rehab, the home of the original Las Vegas pool party. Rehab's weekly Saturday and Sunday events have become legendary. Imagine a throng of bodies in the skimpiest of swimwear sunbathing, drinking and dancing to music spun by popular DJs in a stunning complex that consists of expansive freeform pools, a waterfall, sandy beach areas and kitted-out cabanas. Blackjack and other games are available at swim-up tables and the bartenders are some of the best on The Strip. But if you just want to relax, a more low-key experience in an equally lush landscape can be found at the Nirvana Pool, the Breathe Pool or the pool sanctuary at the Reliquary Spa, which also features a menu of decadent spa treatments from around the world. The dining is as self-indulgent as all other aspects of the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. Nobu is home to modern Japanese cuisine and Fú offers a unique fusion of Asian fare, while 35 Steaks + Martini combines a classic steakhouse ambiance with sumptuous signature cocktails. For casual eats, there's the ever-popular Pink Taco and everyone's favorite -- locals and visitors alike -- Mr. Lucky's Café, which is famous for its not-so-secret $7.77 special, a six-ounce steak, three shrimp and mashed potatoes, that is not listed on the menu but is common knowledge at this laid-back 24-hour coffee shop. Culinary Dropout, which was opened by Restaurateur Sam Fox, is a swanky drinking and pub grub-style dining spot, conveniently adjacent to the pool where you can indulge in everything from fried chicken and biscuits to the signature After School Special cocktail here. If there was ever a perfect concert set list… we think this is the eatery equivalent. In addition, the retail therapy at the resort is distinctive. The shopping at The Hard Rock provides just the right amount of that rock star flash. Visit Love Jones for lingerie and Rocks The Jeweler for some urban bling as well as John Varvatos for men's wear and the Hard Rock Store for logo gear. However, if you're looking for something a bit more permanent, The Hart & Huntington Tattoo Co. opened up shop at The Hard Rock for those with tatting tendencies. And now, our favorite part of the entire hotel is well… the entire hotel! Decorated with their extraordinary collection of rock 'n' roll memorabilia in frames and shadowboxes that line the walls and hallways throughout the premises, rock 'n' roll is nothing short of revived around every corner of The Hard Rock. It's like going to the coolest music museum in the world and not having to pay a dime for the views. With guitars from icons such as Johnny Cash and Coldplay members (among many others), a drum kit used by Aerosmith and the clothes worn by Fergie, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera in their music videos, you will truly feel the rockin' energy within the property. So don't worry, you don't need to find the hair pick and headbands to relive those rock 'n' roll hair days of yours, all you need to do is step into the Hard Rock and let the magic of the surroundings take over.

how long would it take to walk from strip to hard rock

It would take you about 45min to and hour. Since the Hard Rock isn't on the strip it makes for a long walk. A cab is only about 10 bucks there though. If you love music of any type its a awesome place to check out. In my book it's only second to the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame in Ohio when it comes to stuff they have in there. Great food awesome music and the casino is the perfect size in my opinion. It's not a journey from pit to pit. Also the pool is awesome and in the summer month they have swimup blackjack tables. Worth the cab ride. Hope this helps.
