More than 50 years ago the Flamingo Las Vegas sat all alone in the desert on the road leading to Las Vegas. Today it's in the heart of all the action on the Las Vegas Strip. That's what we call planning ahead. And besides bragging rights, being the longest-running property in the heart of the Strip has other perks too. For example, awesome attractions have been built around the hotel. As a result of a recent remodeling project, the north entrance of the hotel is now connected to The LINQ Promenade. This retail, dining and entertainment district boasts the 550-foot observation wheel called the High Roller. And not only does the hotel and its surroundings attract an exciting crowd around the clock, when compared to many of the other hotels in the area, The Flamingo's rooms offer comfort and luxury at more affordable prices. The laid-back Flamingo invites all visitors and guests to relax island-style...the desert is kind of like an island, right? Sans the ocean and the coconuts, it's easy to feel like you're in a tropical oasis inside of the Miami-esque resort and here's a bonus...it's always five o'clock in the Maragritaville Casino for all of you who think that 10 a.m. is too early to start drinking. Inspired by singer Jimmy Buffett's island-escapism lyrics, the 15,000-square-foot casino located in the front end of the Flamingo features palm trees, tropical colors, bikini-clad cocktail waitresses, and the shack-style Margaritaville 5 O'Clock Somewhere Bar.Among the themed décor, a friendly poker room is tucked next to the lobby in addition to a race & sports book that makes sure all of the games are the center of attention so you don't miss a beat. Unless of course you become distracted by the sexy party pit on the gaming floor where a sexy pole dancer in a cage hovers above scantily-clad female dealers manning pink felt-covered blackjack tables located next to the open-air entrance near The Cromwell.Conveniently located just steps away from other popular hotels, The Flamingo's location acts like a central hub to partying. But for those resorts that are a bit too far to walk to, there's a Las Vegas Monorail station on the premises, so you'll have access to several other resorts along the Strip. If you're anything like us, you're either wishing you were gambling and drinking breezy booze beverages or eating...and both of those things can be done at the casino's multi-level Margaritaville restaurant, which boasts two patios overlooking the Strip, a huge retail store, and even a dance floor. Raucous sights and sounds are all around this eatery and not only is the place buzzing with Buffett's greatest island tunes, but there are waitresses who slide down from the top of the three-story Volcano Bar and land in a 300-gallon blender of margarita mix. No, you didn't skip a paragraph; you're still reading about Margaritaville, it's a land of its own! However, if you're not quite ready to "...waste away again in Margaritaville" or if you've simply given up looking for that damn salt shaker, there are plenty of other dining options for a relaxing, casual meal at the expansive food court. Or there is always Center Cut Steakhouse and Carlos'n Charlie's restaurant and bar where they are known for overflowing spirits, which often lead to impromptu dancing on the tables and chairs in the restaurant's expansive indoor dining room and an outdoor patio.Once you've eaten enough and properly prepared yourself for the night ahead, the party vibe can be found in the Flamingo Showroom. The musical, brother and sister duo Donny and Marie Osmond host an extravaganza presenting their greatest hits. (Note: Fans can view costumes from their TV stints on "Dancing with the Stars" and Donny's mirrored disco ball trophy in the exhibit cases near the lobby). When Donny and Marie aren't in town, Olivia Newton-John headlines the showroom. You can also catch the celebrity impersonators of "Legends in Concert" in the afternoons so that in the late evening hours, you can stop by the sexy X Showroom, where men will get all hot and bothered by the beautiful dancers in "X Burlesque" while women can get hot and bothered too and/or they can learn the secrets to the cast's sexy moves at XBU - X Burlesque University.Another major attraction at the Flamingo is the Wildlife Habitat. The hotel's grounds are home to pink Chilean flamingos, wood ducks, koi, turtles and other fascinating creatures. While your wandering through the grounds, keep an eye out for a plaque dedicated to Benjamin "Bugsy" Siegel, the mobster who helped launch the Flamingo in 1946. Also amid the 15 acres of lush greenery lie the resort's spectacular pools. The main pools are interconnected and feature lagoon areas, a seasonal waterslide, a meandering river and cascading waterfalls. For a trendy dayclub experience, visitors will want to check out the Go Pool (open during summer only), where the guest DJ gets the party started and keeps it going all day long for guests reveling in chaise lounges, daybeds and VIP cabanas.  Also outside are the enchanting garden and gazebo wedding chapels where you and your honey can tie the knot and start your happily ever after at the hotel's luxurious spa. With a full menu of delicious body treatments, The Spa offers a myriad of services for your pampering pleasure.

You know that friend who’s really afraid of heights? Stratosphere is probably not the place to take them. But once you’ve ditched them in the casino, at the Level 8 Pool or the Tower Pizzeria & Creamery, let yourself enjoy the ride up to the biggest attraction at Stratosphere. At 1,149 feet, the Stratosphere Tower makes every other structure in the city awkwardly explain that they’re just cold or nervous. Since it extends to such a great height, it's visible from nearly every vantage point in Las Vegas. But those sights are nothing compared to the view from the top. In less than 40 seconds, high-speed elevators pull you upward like you’re already on a thrill ride. You can’t see out, which is probably a good thing since you wouldn’t want to be stuck in an elevator with the one person who couldn’t handle it. But thanks to the attentive and explanatory elevator operators, you’ll have plenty of information to take your mind off the fact that you’re shooting upward at 25 ft/s. (Yeah, we did math.)Once you get to the top, you’ve got lots of options depending on how intense you are. If you’re quite calm, Top of the World restaurant, one of Las Vegas' premier gourmet rooms serves sophisticated cuisine impeccably paired with wine and complemented by a 360-degree view of the city. The floor actually makes a complete rotation every 80 minutes. The place is so romantic they even offer special Proposal Packages. And for casual people who enjoy a cocktail, Level 107 Lounge overlooks Top of the World and Air Bar is literally the highest bar in Vegas. For people just slightly more daring, the Observation Deck offers indoor and outdoor viewing of Fabulous Las Vegas and is the perfect place to sit and wait for the friends you politely refer to as “adventurous” as they enjoy themselves. For some reason Stratosphere decided, “Hey, let’s put thrill rides on top of the tallest structure in the city. That’s a good idea.” So that’s exactly what they did. And it’s totally a good idea. There are currently four ways to test your resolve: X-Scream (A teeter totter that gets its jollies by dangling people off a building), Big Shot (A ride that takes you even higher into the air then drops you harder than a dubstep DJ drops the beat), Insanity (Like your childhood merry-go-round if it were jacked up on Four Loco and Spike TV), and SkyJump (It’s just jumping off the top of the building and trusting a cable to slow you down--because parachutes are for babies). We could give you warnings about trying these, but we can already tell that if you’re the type of person who’s already excited then nothing will talk you out of the ride. And you’re also probably the type of person whose main reason for not wanting to die is the fear of your family going through your stuff. But for the rest of who have self-control and a healthy fear response, Stratosphere also has more grounded appeal."Pin Up" is a sexy and sultry stage show starting Claire Sinclair and was choreographed by Lacey Schwimmer of "Dancing with the Stars." The Michael Jackson tribute show "MJ Live" also plays at the Stratosphere. Fellini's Ristorante Italiano Preparing excellent pasta and other Italian delights. Singing for your supper is all the rage at Roxy's Diner as the wait staff in this nostalgic restaurant often put on a show to accompany their old-fashioned home cooking. And McCall's Heartland Grill has a hearty mix of steak and seafood in a Midwestern-style restaurant.Add to all that The Buffet, the pool with poolside café, Roni Josef International Salon & Spa and Tower Shops with 32 stores that replicate street scenes from iconic shopping cities like Paris and New York and you can see that Stratosphere is much more than a tower. That said, the tower is still pretty awesome.Stratosphere is close enough that you can catch a cab or shuttle to the rest of the Strip (we don't recommend walking), when you’re finished surveying it from the observation deck of course. And complete enough that you won’t have to leave if you don’t want to. It may not be for the acrophobic, but Stratosphere, with everything it has to offer and the heights it reaches, is definitely for the people who want to push themselves a little and look over the edge at least once during their Vegas vacation.
