Guests of Palace Station will enjoy an extensive array of amenities during their stay as well as a prime location just west of the Las Vegas Strip. This laid-back resort is also conveniently situated next to the I-15. Built in 1976 on 38 acres and originally opened as "The Casino," it became Palace Station, the flagship property for the Station Casinos empire, in 1991. Although the resort has undergone various renovations, including the addition of a 21-story room tower, it's kept a down-to-earth vibe, making it ideal for travelers on a budget who are seeking a good hotel value. The rooms and suites at Palace Station are outfitted for comfort, with things like cable TVs, hair dryers and wireless internet access. An outdoor pool with a hot tub, a fully equipped fitness center, a business center, a gift shop and a courtesy airport/Strip shuttle will also enhance your vacation experience. From classic to ethnic, guests can indulge their taste buds with a wide range of restaurants. Cabo Mexican Restaurant has a fun salsa bar and serves a menu of authentic flavors from south of the border. Pasta Cucina's talented staff cook innovative Italian delights that will please every palate. And the Oyster Bar is an 18-seat, live-action kitchen preparing freshly shucked oysters, steamed clams and homemade seafood pastas. For quick meals, Palace Station boasts the cheerful Grand Café, the all-you-can-eat Feast Buffet, the Food Express Chinese Restaurant, four fast food eateries (Subway, Johnny Rockets, Bonanno's New York Pizzeria and Starbucks) and 24-hour room service.Lively evenings can be spent in Jack's, a pub and sports bar. Local bands also play here several nights a week. The Traxx Bar and Trackside Bar are two more fine spots for cocktails -- including the beloved 99-cent margarita. The casino floor is always busy at Palace Station. You'll find plenty of action in the bingo hall, keno lounge or race and sports book, which boasts 230 seats and 44 large video screens. There's a nonsmoking poker room along with numerous table games and more than 1,600 slot and video poker machines. The resort is unique in that it has an Asian table games area, where guests can try their luck at pai gow tiles and both mini and midi baccarat.Ideal for meetings and special celebrations, Palace Station also features more than 20,000 square feet of event space. It's equipped with state-of-the-art amenities including projectors, DVD players and other technological devices. Catering and other services are available as well.Palace Station is within walking distance of several other restaurants and a short drive from downtown and the Strip -- putting guests near the epicenter of all the big happenings in Las Vegas.-- By Renée LiButti

Arizona Charlie's Boulder is beloved by locals, and it's ideal for visitors who want to stay away from the Strip on the east side of Las Vegas. Located on Boulder Highway in an area dubbed the "Boulder Strip," this small-sized resort offers good value and comfortable accommodations as well as an intimate casino experience. Each of the guest rooms and suites at Arizona Charlie's Boulder is spacious and comes with a remote-controlled color TV, Pay-Per-View movies, an iron and ironing board, climate control and a hair dryer. The swimming pool and hot tub in the courtyard are open seasonally. Laundry services are also available. The resort's three main dining venues are located on the second floor. The Yukon Grille provides steakhouse-style dinners in a relaxed setting. Fresh seafood, filet mignon, rotisserie duck, rack of lamb and other flavorful meats are just a few of the things can order here. Experience down-home cooking for breakfast, lunch and dinner in the Sourdough Cafe. The menu features American cuisine and runs the gamut from traditional to contemporary. The Wild West Buffet boasts a large dining room packed with good things -- seafood, pastas, prime rib, salads and scrumptious desserts. Plus, on the main floor near the parking garage, guests can always grab a sandwich and specialty coffee at Charlie's Cheesesteak Deli. All of your favorite games await in the action-packed casino. In addition to a 24-hour , guests can place a bet on their favorite team in the race and sports book and then sit back in one of 16 armchairs to watch the day's matchups. With 12 different table games and more than 1,000 slot and video poker machines, you'll have plenty of other ways to win big. Take a breather and enjoy a beer or cocktail in the beautiful Elbow Creek Bar at the heart of the casino. At night, live bands perform on the nearby stage in the Palace Grand Lounge. For those traveling with recreational vehicles, there's an accompanying RV park at Arizona Charlie's Boulder. It boasts more than 200 spaces that can accommodate motor homes of all sizes. A clubhouse offers a large TV, a pool table, fitness equipment and laundry facilities. Situated less than 10 miles from the Strip and McCarran International Airport near the U.S. 95, the affordable Arizona Charlie's Boulder may be a bit off-the-beaten path, but it has everything you need to relax and have fun in Vegas.   -- By Renée LiButti

There's always something going on at the Stratosphere, which is conveniently situated between downtown Las Vegas and the Strip. The resort, which boasts the tallest freestanding tower in the United States, is also home to several great restaurants, two enjoyable shows, plenty of shops and four heart-stopping thrill rides. At 1,149 feet, the Stratosphere Tower dwarfs everything else in the city. Since it extends to such a great height, it's visible from nearly every vantage point in Las Vegas. So you can just imagine the extraordinary perspective you'll have when looking down upon the entire valley from the top. In less than 40 seconds, high-speed elevators will take you to the 109th floor, where there's an indoor and outdoor observation deck. It's hard to believe four thrill rides and the Air Bar -- as you may find you need a drink! -- are also located here. Screams of terror as well as delight can be heard coming from X-Scream (something of a giant teeter totter), Insanity (a chaotic spinning ride) and SkyJump (a cable-controlled freefall). The Big Shot, a fearsome ride that shoots straight up into the air and then drops back down to the launch pad, somehow temporarily eliminates the feeling of gravity.A safer and saner way to enjoy the tower is with a fine meal in the Top of the World restaurant. One of Las Vegas' premier gourmet rooms, it serves sophisticated cuisine impeccably paired with wine and complemented by a 360-degree view of the city -- because the floor makes a complete rotation every 80 minutes. If you just want to sip on a cocktail while taking in the extraordinary views, head up a floor to the Level 107 Lounge.Preparing eccellènte pasta and other Italian delights is the pride and joy of Fellini's Ristorante Italiano. Singing for your supper is all the rage at Roxy's Diner. The cool waitstaff in this nostalgic restaurant, known for its old-fashioned home cooking, often put on a show. Stop by McCall's Heartland Grill for a hearty mix of steak and seafood in a Midwestern-style restaurant. The Buffet -- with its array of cuisines, carving stations, a deli area and fresh-baked pastries -- is simply delicious at any time of the day. Or the Tower Pizzeria & Creamery is a great place to grab a quick slice and a scoop of ice cream.Frankie Moreno and his 10-piece band create a party atmosphere each evening in the resort's main showroom with their undeniable musical talent, swagger and shots of Crown Royal whiskey. They play a captivating collection of classic covers and original hits. Moreno has also produced a show called "Pin Up." The swingin' production stars Claire Sinclair, a Playboy Playmate, and was choreographed by Lacey Schwimmer of "Dancing with the Stars."Open seasonally, summers at the Stratosphere are best spent at the Level 8 Pool, located on the eighth floor. In addition to a hot tub, poolside café and bar, you'll always find a game of water volleyball in session. For a more serious workout, check out the resort's 24-hour fitness center. Or do something wonderful for both your body and spirit by getting treatment, massage or facial at the Roni Josef International Salon & Spa. It's guaranteed to melt all your stresses away! For those who dream of shopping around the world, there's the Tower Shops with 32 stores and an eclectic mix of retail carts. Explore the avenues of Paris, the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong and the ritzy neighborhoods of New York City at this unique retail complex that features replicated street scenes from those iconic shopping cities.About a mile from both the heart of the Strip and downtown, the Stratosphere offers visitors a convenient connection to all the action via The Deuce and the Strip and Downtown Express bus systems. No visit to Las Vegas would be complete without exploring the Stratosphere and its famous tower -- and staying here is even better. The resort is affordably priced and perfectly placed for a fantastic vacation!-- By Renée LiButti
