Green Valley Ranch is perfect for people who are coming to Las Vegas but don't want to be immersed in the city's round-the-clock vibe. Located about 20 minutes away in Henderson, just off the I-215 at Green Valley Parkway, this elegant resort provides a retreat far from the crowds -- yet it's still close to the Strip as well as in the vicinity of several golf courses, cultural attractions and wonderful shopping opportunities.Green Valley Ranch is like an oasis in the desert. The resort sits on eight acres with lush landscaping. Its lobby has an elegant ambiance akin to European manor houses of centuries past. The 490 rooms and suites are located in an eight-floor tower that is removed from the busy casino for peace and quiet. All of the accommodations are sophisticated in style and atmosphere. Amenities include down comforters, coffeemakers, multiline speaker telephones, plush robes, separate showers and bathtubs, private bars and complimentary daily newspapers. Concierge service and 24-hour in-room dining are also available. The hotel tower at Green Valley Ranch is situated by the stunning pools. One pool and Jacuzzi are for all guests to use. Other areas -- called The Pond and The Backyard, which has an incredible sand bottom -- are for VIPs and special events. Plus, this breathtaking outdoor deck features private cabanas, a poolside café and a Mediterranean-style lounge. Concerts and pool parties are often held in the spring and summer months.Certainly a highlight of the resort is the variety of dining options. Expect the finest in gastronomy at Hank's, a steakhouse known for its impeccable service and high-quality prime cuts of beef. Another favorite among guests is Tides Oyster Bar, where the seafood is fresh and served with New Orleans spirit. For more casual meals, stop by the Feast Buffet or the Grand Café, which is open 24 hours. Green Valley Ranch also has a fabulous selection of fast food outlets in a charming food court. As part of a $20 million investment project, several new eateries will debut at the resort by spring 2015. This includes Mercadito by the Sandoval brothers of Chicago. Among the Mexican restaurant's highlights will be tacos created with homemade corn masa tortillas, ceviches, guacamoles, salsas and, of course, some unforgettable margaritas. Tony Gemignani, an 11-time World Pizza Champion, is bringing a second location of his popular Pizza Rock restaurant to Green Valley Ranch. He'll also operate a more casual venue called Slice House by Tony Gemignani. Tippling Hall will be devoted to all things alcohol. This spirited joint will feature everything from unique kegged cocktails, wines and brews to a menu of globally inspired comfort food.If you're not relaxed from all the food and sunbathing, then a visit to The Spa at Green Valley Ranch is a requirement. The facility is equipped with an indoor lap pool, a steam room and a gym. It offers a delightful menu of massages and body treatments -- like the Watermelon Sugar Scrub, an exfoliating treatment that's sure to leave you feeling refreshed!  Guests looking to add some energy and volume to their evenings will discover lots to drink in the chic Drop Bar. There's also a 10-screen Regal Cinemas on the premises. For gamblers, Green Valley Ranch is home to a 16-seat live keno lounge, an action-packed race and sports book, more than 55 table games and 2,200 slot and video poker machines. There is also a 22-table poker room and a 400-seat bingo hall. For shoppers, The District at Green Valley Ranch, an outdoor, urban-style retail and dining complex, is just a few steps away.  Since Green Valley Ranch is off the beaten path, the resort provides a complimentary shuttle to guests. Service is offered to and from McCarran International Airport as well as Mandalay Bay on the Strip. So when you want to avoid the hustle and bustle in Las Vegas, Green Valley Ranch will be your haven away from it all.

It was pretty much a perfect place to stay! The Italian restaurant is one of the best I have ever been to.

The Golden Nugget was originally built in 1946 but there's nothing about this property that feels dated. It's the largest Downtown Las Vegas hotel and it feels more like the kind of resort you'd find on the Las Vegas Strip with its luxurious pool, spa and top-notch dining and entertainment.Casino mogul Steve Wynn bought the Golden Nugget in the early '70s and transformed it from just a casino into a luxury resort that earned its first four diamond rating from Mobil Travel Guide in 1977. As ownership changed hands over the years, more hotel towers were added to the property including the latest, the Rush Tower, in 2009. The Rush Tower rooms are twenty percent larger than the hotel's standard rooms and feature upgraded amenities and views of the Strip, mountains and the pool. So if you need added space in a room, book the Rush Tower. We can't talk about the Golden Nugget without talking more about its pool. This isn’t your average ordinary pool. It's dubbed The Tank because it basically doubles as a shark tank. Yep, guests who slide down the three-story enclosed water slide will pass right through an aquarium filled with sharks (Unlike the CSI Vegas episode, these sharks stay in the tank). For those who prefer a little less wildlife while they're catching rays, there are daybeds, cabanas and a bar. Another two-level, infinity-edge pool, called The Hideout, can be accessed from the third floor of The Tank. We love it because it's for adults only.   If aquariums really are your thing, be sure to eat at the Chart House restaurant inside. Its bar wraps around a 75,000-gallon tropical aquarium filled with more than 1,000 colorful fish. The Golden Nugget is packed with restaurants to suit just about any taste. Go to the Grotto for Italian classics and a bright and open setting. Claim Jumper serves hearty portions of classic American food and Vic and Anthony’s is an award-winning, elegant steakhouse with the finest cuts of meat around. If you're hungry and thirsty, Cadillac Mexican Cantina & Tequila Bar may just be your utopia. Not only can you get your favorite south-of-the-border dishes, there’s a selection of more than 70 boutique tequilas and they sell giant 80-ounce beer towers.Looking for a place to party that doesn't involve tequila and beer towers? On the resort's second floor, the balcony at Gold Diggers nightclub looks out over all the crazy action on the Fremont Street Experience below. (Hello people watching.) When you step inside, there's a great bar and dancing. Downstairs, the Rush Lounge is the spot to sip signature cocktails, or you can order one of 40 different brews from the International Beer Bar. There's also Bar 46, an oval-shaped bar with a table games area that spills out onto Fremont Street. If you're looking for entertainment, the resort's showroom is pretty much always stocked with stars. Impressionist Gordie Brown brings nearly a hundred celebs -- from icons like Elvis and Michael Jackson to Aaron Neville and Sylvester Stallone -- to life onstage. The Golden Nugget also boasts a rotating lineup of the hottest headliners in music and comedy with their 52 Fridays Concert Series performing every Friday throughout 2015. From Grammy award-winning artists and legendary tribute bands to country music hall of famers and epic classic rock bands, you can catch it all here. The other thing you have to see while you're at the Golden Nugget is, well, an actual golden nugget. Dubbed The Hand of Faith, the biggest golden nugget in existence (61 pounds!) is showcased at the hotel. It was found in Australia in 1980 and was sold to the Golden Nugget for more than a million dollars. See it on display in the lobby and snap a quick selfie with it. Look ma I discovered gold in Vegas! The Golden Nugget takes its gold pretty seriously. Not only can you see a massive piece of gold on display at the hotel you can also shop for gold in an ATM. The hotel is one of only three locations in North America to have a Gold to Go ATM, which is basically a vending machine for gold. The ATM is always online and updates prices every 10 minutes based on current gold spot prices. Along with gold bars of various weights ranging between one gram and one ounce, the vending machine also sells traditional gold coins and Golden Nugget souvenir pieces. We can't think of a better way to commemorate your stay at the hotel.

Very comfortable, wonderful city view, close proximity, attentive staff, wonderful pool.

Starting with making the reservations: Our agent was extremely helpful, and very nice. She was well versed in her knowledge of Las Vegas, and did provide a room we described to a "T." Check in was efficient and the person who waited on us did everything to make sure our room was perfect for us. The food in the Cafe was very good and we enjoyed an unhurried meal with courteous wait staff.
So in a word, "we could not have been more satified with service from beginning to check out.

Are your pools heated?

Yes, year round heating! Very refreshing, and they also have a very nice hot tub by the fireplaces.
